Ireland has a long history of moving statues but they're usually of the religious type. If this one moves, and I'm sure it will, it will be the first ever verifiable one.
that it was moved on the back of a lorry needn't be mentioned
I realise that (in NI particularly) this might be a little controversial - but how about fitting a small explosive device in the plinth which would cover anybody who tries to 'borrow' the statue with something indelible and unpleasant?
We've all heard of weeping statues, and there's one in Belgium that wees on people, but one that throws ordure over potential thieves would be a first. Good idea, Dave
