I have just been looking at some writable DVDs on Amazon and noticed that most of them are 4.7Gb or 120mins. however they did have some described as Dual Layer that just about doubled the capacity and would suit me better but I have been told that a special DVD writer is required as these discs will not work in most DVD writers, is this correct?

What model of dvd writer do you have installed? Search on net for that model's specifications. What dvd player do you intend to use for playing it back? Same information needed to determine if it will play dual layer dvds.

Thanks TTG the writer is in an Acer Aspire 7000 laptop and it says on the little logo "DVD RW+dl" which I assume means dual layer, as for the player I thought any player would play them as allot of long films (over 2 hours) these days come on just one disc which I believe are dual layer discs and I have never had any trouble playing them on any DVD player.
