Dysfunctional family on TV or film

For no reason at all, a scene from either a TV show or film sprang to mind. All I can remember is that the family is strange or embarrassing, and the daughter comes back from a first date, but doesn't want her boyfriend to meet the family. Meanwhile the father has a sailing boat in the garden, and one of the sons is not very bright. Extremely sketchy, so apologies. But if anyone has any ideas...... Many thanks.

The Murtaugh family in the 'Lethal Weapon' series had a boat in the front garden....but the rest of your description does not follow that....'Married With Children' featured a particularly dysfunctional family?

Not The Osbournes, is it? Haven't seen much of it, so dont know about the boat/first date/etc, but they're dysfunctional as all hell!

Solved! It's a show called Maybe It's Me, which was shown on Channel 4. Thanks for everyone's help. Now I must keep my mind busy or else it may wander into more obscure questions!
