Conjunctivitis

I work in a school and have been sent home with conjunctivitis as it is very contagious. Have antibiotic drops from the chemist, but how long should I be off for?

Drops should take about three days, but keep taking them as long as the chemist says, you should be OK by Monday.

the school will have rules and you really need to ask them.

it should clear up in 5 days if you're using eye drops, if not then see your doctor again. I'd imagine the school will have certain proceures they have to follow when a child or member of staff comes down with something infectious, they certainly should have so I'd double check. Although when I had it last week my doctor said it's mostly spread through using the same towels etc when you live with someone. I'd imagine you'll be fine in about 3-5 days. After the first day or so of taking the drops you'll notice the difference so just hang in there.

HI Suzy, my daughter had conjunctivitis just before christmas. I went to the chemist and was told only the doctor could give me something for it. Which was Fucithalmic. It cleared up within 2 days.

Sorry this is probably too late to be of any use, but in my school the guiidelines say: Exclusion is not necessary, unless the establishment has a provision for the under fives. If antibiotic drops are applied then exclusion should be for the first 24 hours of treatment.
