Betnovate Lotion For Scalp

My GP prescribed me Betnovate lotion to help combat an itchy scalp. I've to use it at night time. I also got Tetralysal anti biotics - I have folliculitis.

Has anyone used Betnovate lotion before? I have long, thick hair and I'm a bit worried about using it! I'm not sure if it will make my hair smell, or possibly go oily and will need washed the following morning before I go out?

And because it's considered a 'potent'corticosteroid, I'm worried about how much to apply.

Any advice from previous users gratefully received.

I've been using Betnovate Scalp Application for a number of years now and it's the only thing that I've found to be effective but it doesn't cure the problem, only keeps it under control.

p.s. the application is 0.1% w/w betamasone (as valerate), don't know how that compares with what you are using.

Bibblebub: nearly right! it's betamethasone, and the scalp application comes only in one strength.
As bb has said, it only controls the problem - stop using it and symptoms usually return.

...should have said that, as it's alcohol-based, it shouldn't affect your usual washing routine. It's rather like putting water on your head....it'll be obvious how much to use from the applicator nozzle.

Dab it on all over the scalp, using the nozzle - it doesn't smell, and is more likely to dry your hair than make it oily. I use it from time to time for psoriasis.

Ps yea I don't think the GP prescribed this as a 'cure' for the condition. It's just to address the itch problem. So hopefully it'll help the symptoms while the anti biotic does the rest.
