Birth Certificate

My son was born abroad and his birth was registered at the British Consulate. We have since lost his Birth Certificate. Can anyone tell me how to get a replacement

searching on line some companies are stating they can obtain certificates from agencies both here and overseas even if registered in a consulate,so I presume you can access the same government agencies ,ie a local registrar who can do a search for you
