Is Pure Distilled Water (not boiled) poisonous? I was told it was a while ago by someone and didn't question it. But It popped into my head randomly and I can't see how it can be!

Heavy water or Deuterium oxide is not radioactive. Deuterium is a stable isotope of hydrogen. According to the MSDS: "High concentrations in the body can affect biochemical processes. Ingestion of large amounts impairs kidney function, CNS operation. Chemical presents no hazard unless significant quantities are ingested."
I had a poke around on the old t'internet and read that although not lethal, Pure deionised water can be quite bad for you if consumed constantly. Apparently water in it's purest form is quite an aggressive solvent, and will dissolve membranes and oils etc etc. Also that it absorbs salts and minerals from the digestive system - but it would be taken back by the kidneys at somepoint! to-me-to-you....
