I do not like the "Normal" default in 2010 Word where it sets 1.5 as the line space, even resetting to 1 is to larger gap. When i hit the "No space" button I get exactly what i'm after. Its a pain trying to remember this each time I open up word, so can I set it "No Spacing" as default. thanks

You need to change the template which Word calls upon whenever you open a new blank document.

its helpful Chris but doesn't explain how to get "No spacing" to set as part of the template
Not sure if I got this right.

If the document is saved with a certain spacing then it will open like that every time. To get it to open with minimal spacing you need to save it like that and then it will open so each time.
I know what timberup means. Every time I start a new Word 2007 document, the default line spacing is double spaced - I have to go in and adjust it manually before I start typing any document.

Yes boxtops thats right it defaults back to "Normal" spacing when you open up, you have to then click the button in top right corner saying AaBbCc No Spacing to get it to type the way i'd like it to remain

Chris, that was perfect it all seems to open the way i'd like it too,, why they make it so obscure i'll never know, many thanks
Click on the Normal Style and select Change Styles. Select Paragraph Spacing/Custom Paragraph Spacing from the drop down menu. Select the Recommend tab and click No Spacing. Select New documents based on this template. Click ok. Close Word and reopen. It should be set now.
