Hand Luggage Only...
15 Answers
After refusing to pay the extortionate fee for putting a bag in the hold, I'm only taking hand luggage on holiday next week... However, this will, obviously, include my hair styling products which are quite 'liquidy'.
Will they go through my case and confiscate my stuff? If so, how bloody rude! and I won't bother taking my new purchases just to get chucked in the bin (which I don't believe actually happens.. I reckon they divvy all the booty up at the end of the shift and swan off home with our perfectly fine stuff...)

If all containers contain are no more than 100ml they need to be placed in clear resealable plastic bag and taken through separately.
Another way is to buy them airside and leave behind what you don't use.
couple in front of me last year had the lot confiscated.

I was about to put into my own words what has already been detailed in ubasses link.
Having worked in the field all I can say is that we never took any confiscated items home with us. Quite often passengers were able to keep their liquids, it was just the clear bag they needed to purchase. Those who were naive or genuinely unaware and had liquids over 100ml or another item on the prohibited article list, we disposed of the items in a large bin and the duty managers disposed appropriately. Some were used for display cabinets pre-security as examples of what cant be carried.

You all seem to have missed the point. It's nothing to do with weight. Any liquids taken as hand baggage have to conform to certain criteria - (a) the individual container must not be more than 100ml capacity i.e. you cannot have a 200ml container half full and (b) total liquids must not exceed 1 litre in total and (c) they all have to put in the security tray in a resealable clear plastic bag i.e. not in your handbag/hand luggage. I thought everyone understood these rules by now but obviously not!
It's only because we now get the price breakdown that you can even see what hold baggage costs. It used to be that checking in bags was expected and the overall price was higher. It's perfectly understandable why we should pay extra to put luggage in the hold. Personally I couldn't possibly manage going on holiday with hand luggage only.
