Credit Note?

I'm not sure where to put this but as its a general question I'll try it.

I bought a two piece outfit 2 days ago as a possible outfit for a wedding. I wasn't too sure if it was what I really wanted but my husband and 2 store assistants, who had no other customers to be dealing with, were all telling me looked it lovely etc etc.....so I payed for it thinking I would be able to make a better decision trying it on at home in private.

I did just that yesterday. It didn't take 10 seconds to decided it was totally not something I would wear.

My husband returned it for me yesterday [ I don't get about too well]to be told its not company policy to do a cash refund I would have to have a credit note! The assistant assured my husband I had been told that the day before when I was paying for it. I definitely wasn't as I wouldn't have risked that amount of money

Now I am left with a hefty credit note, for a shop I would never on principle use again.

Does anyone know if this company were right to take this attitude and keep my money please.

They are completely within their rights to not provide a cash refund just because you don't like it.

Sorry but that is the deal.
In fact I think they are going above and beyond their basic statutory duty by offering a credit note.
I agree eccs. More careful shopping in the future perhaps ?
Unfortunately they don't to give you your money back just because you have changed your mind. X
if the credit note is only valid for 30 days (I'm sure that's what most shops will do if they are nice)
please don't feel pressured into something that you don't feel comfortable in at the time of purchase. If in doubt, keep trying on clothes until you do feel comfy.
your lucky they refunded you as there was nothing wrong with the outfit to ask for a refund...you dont have to spend the whole amount in one go but do check how long the credit note is valid for...
I take it you didn;t shop in M & S nor debenhams, they both offer an exchange on unsuitable items within 28 days. But that is an extra service, not a right, though because they state it on their reciept and on pos in store they have to abide by the policy.

If you have accepted the credit note it may be too late to ask again, but maybe if you had returned yourself you would have used better shopping skills than your husband and been able to negotiate better, so on the plus side, you can blame him. : )
I always ask about returns policy before I buy. I know an awful woman who even return things to charity shops and demands her money back- beat that ! I don't know how she has the nerve.
They were being generous issuing you with a credit note. If you are unsure about something, don't buy it....unless you are buying it in M&S!
