All you have to do is add water and stir or shake. I believe it was first invented for space travel but as a kid living in Dubai, we used to get Tang instead of fresh orange juice (and it was the 70's so it was the "in" thing to drink at the time).
Launched in 1957 by the American tobacco and food processing giant Philip Morris Companies Inc, Tang was approved as a nutritive supplement by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for use by astronauts during lunar missions.
Thereafter, Tang, which came to be known as such for its rich, citric, tangerine taste, was launched commercially and became an instant marketing success. Now one of Philip Morris' most famous brands, Tang has a huge market in West Asia, Spain, the Philippines, Portugal, Turkey, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania and Bangladesh.
I think that the "joke" is the myth that Neil Armstrong invented Tang rather than the fact that he actually drank it during his mission.
Poor joke, eh ?

I'm not familiar with the joke, but might there be some connection with the fact that 'tang' - an abbreviation of 'poontang' in USA slang - means 'sex' as well as being the name of a fizzy drink. If the joke, for example, referred to Armstrong having "lots of it" on the moon, one can see how it might be amusing.
Quizmonster - thank you! Tang was also referred to in the Simpsons episode where Homer goes into space. He calls up President Clinton and says: " I figured if anyone knew where to get some Tang it'd be you." I knew that Tang was a drink but always felt there was a bit of a double entendre there.....
