The new 111 number is intended as an alternative to the 999 number for people who require urgent medical help but whose lives are not at risk.

It is not implemented yet in Northern Ireland (and seems to be self-destructing in England and Wales)

thanks factor. Just understood last week. It may be the same as 111 - but we use 999) a small motor car/ambulance arrives with equipment and assesses the patient then if he/she decides the victim is really sick - the big ambulance comes. So that is probably what it is. it is indeed NI

Please read the links Connie - 111 is *not* what you describe.

What you saw is a 'fast response paramedic unit' - called for a genuine, potentially life-threatening, emergency through the 999 system.
