If you are banned from driving do you automatically have to retake your driving test, or does it depend on how long you are banned for.

No - not necessarily. I believe it depends on the sentencing court who take into account previous offences/driving history. As far as I am aware it is not related to the duration of the ban.

You only have to retake a test if the magistrates have added that condition to the ban.

If during the first two years of passing your driving test you accumulate 6 or more penalty points you revert to provisional licence status and will have to retake your theory test and driving test. It depends on points not necessarily a ban, but if a ban has been issued you will have probably been given more than six points.

After two years you may be banned for a certain period then your licence is returned unless the endorsement reads "banned until a driving test has been passed" or "until a extended driving test has been passed"

The latter applies to very serious offences, hope this is not you.
