Because my hearing has deteriorated very badly, I have been referred for a cochlear implant. I have read a lot about it and understand how it all works etc. but just wondered if anyone on here has any personal experience they could tell me about.
I have no personal experience other than one of the boys I taught had an implant....he was about ten at the time....and the difference it made to him was wonderful.
I have been out of the loop for some years but if I can find any more up to date info from ex colleagues I will post on here...x
Well, the rehabilitation period is quite short, by this I mean the post operative period, the same as if you had a mastoid operation, out perhaps within two days or a week at the very most, depending upon the E.N.T unit.
Again unless you have been told differently, the external component will not be "switched on" for 2 weeks post operatively.
You Audiologist will give you advice on speech rehabilitation.
Sorry for the delay in replying but I've been out. Thank you both for your responses. I guess from Squad's reply that I shall be spending two weeks in complete silence!!! That will need some thinking about.
