Adventure Places/hotels In Yorkshire

We are off on our hols soon - unfortunately, I have to work in Leeds on one of the days we are meant to be away. So I thought I would organise for Mr BM and Mini Mr BM to go to an adventure theme park for the day so I can go off and do my job and not worry about them. I've found one "Go Ape", not sure that is right for Mini Mr BM. Are there any Alton Towers type places in Yorkshire and can anyone personally recommend a child friendly *NICE* hotel?

We've "done" York so that's out - any suggestions for somewhere Dad and son can have a fun filled hair raising day whilst I am slogging my guts out?

ideally, where would you need to be staying BM? I'm just thinking there are some cracking glamping sites with yurts that also cater in for you and do packed lunches too

Thanks for the tip Morrigan. He LOVES scary rides - 2 years ago he forced me to go on that ENORMOUS blinkin roller coaster at Blackpool twice on the trot. It was hideous. He was killing himself laughing and chanting "BM screamed like a girlie" as I was trying to maintain some composure and hang onto my lunch. But he also likes smaller child friendly rides.

I've had lots of good suggestions - any personal recommendations for a hotel? If it had a swimming pool, that would be good and seeing as I am the one paying, I like at least a 4 star...........

I LIKE that hotel. Plus it would mean that I can just walk to the station and jump on the train to Leeds, so the boys can go off in the car.

Sloopy, I don't know yet. In all honesty, its probably best if we stay fairly near a train station so that I am not reliant on the boys and can come and go as I need to (potentially, I could go into two days) and they are not reliant on me (we will only have one car with us). Much as I like camping, given that I am going to be needing constant email access and potentially access to a printer, its best if we stay in a hotel. PLus of course if we stay in a hotel SOMEONE ELSE (ie NOT me) does the cooking............

I'd go for Harrogate over Leeds, and it's only 20 minutes on the train

BM - we stayed at the "Novotel Leeds Centre" last September when we went to the Harrogate Flower Show. It did have facilities for children, there was a room for them in Reception if I remember rightly. It was a nice modern hotel, but the only downside was the parking, didn't seem enough spaces for the whole hotel. It was extremely central though and we walked into the City centre to eat each night. The breakfasts (incl) were fantastic.

Harrogate is rather lovely.

I'd happily camp if I wasn't having an "intervening work break". I am seriously pissed off about it as well.

Hmmmm, Ann "Parking" will be an issue since if Mr BM cant park his precious motor somewhere very decent indeed we will have all manner of hissy fits.

if you go for Harrogate, the ones people mention are Rudding Park, the Old Swan and the Majestic BM, though I'm not speaking from personal experience

Sloopy gets best answer because when I ran through the choices with Mr BM, he decided that "Camp Hill" was to quote him "bang on the mark". You've all done me a favour because he was carping about me having to work during our holiday, and him and Mini Mr BM being bored but he is less concerned now!!!!!!

Hi BM

The Forbidden Corner is THE best attraction I have ever been to. You have to book as they like to keep the numbers reasonable. On the website it describes itself as "the strangest place in the world". There is nothing else like it!

Eden Camp is also a cracking day out for all ages - it is 5 minutes drive from Flamingoland.

Can I also mention that if they end up at Flamingoland there are substantial discounts for the disabled (in receipt of DLA).....and for one person as a carer. (Take a copy of the DLA award notice if applicable). The disabled person and carer get special wristbands and can go to the front of the queue on all rides (be prepared for murderous looks from the thousands in the queue lol)
