I can't wear a pair of earrings now as one ear lobe is totally split open (not nice to see but painless!) I know there can be an operation to mend it but not under the NHS, and it is too costly for me to go private. Is there any other procedure which can be done please?

I don't really see what you mean. If the perforated ear lobe is split, then only a surgical repair is the answer.Am I missing the point?
We did them as NHS Day cases ... although its not too expensive to have a private repair
However switching to large clip earrings that cover the split might tide you over while you save up
Both my friends earlobes are like this (too much wearing of heavy danglers), she usually wears biggish clip ons that cover the tear.
My Grandma had split earlobes. Even when looking at pictures of her now I don't even notice them.
