The light in my fridge went today. Although things seem cold/frozen, I havent heard the motor run for a while.. its not something I usually pay attention to either to he honest.. so not sure if it always makes a noise or not.. with it being late evening though im worried im going to wake up to all my stuff thawed! :(

Any idea how I can test it?

Do you not have a fridge thermometer? If not, get one tomorrow!
try freezing some ice cubes
Yes, you need a thermometer. About 4 for fridge and -18 for freezer
good idea, pond. Don't keep opening the door though - the longer you leave it shut, the colder it'll stay.

Have you checked the fuse?

Switch it for the one in the toaster or kettle to test it.
Did you have a thunderstorm?
Possible the fuse in the plug has blown.
Ghostly Hopkirk......
As above - every fridge and freezer should have a way of measuring the temperature. -18C in freezer and 2 to 5 in fridge.
Think it's probably just the bulb gone - can you plug something else into the socket to check there's power there?
Freezing water won't tell you if the freezer is cold enough for the food, though
Try turning the temperature up and see if the motor kicks in. You know it's still working if it does.
Down?
By temperature up I mean the dial inside. In mine the higher the number the colder it is. I didn't explain it too well did I.
The best thermometers for this kind of problem are the maximum/minimum kind. They'll record the range of temperatures your fridge and freezer are going through.

I haven't got a peg in mine - depending on the style, I lay it on a shelf, or hang if off one of the racks. At the moment, I have a fridge freshener which also monitors the temperature.
How many people really keep a fridge/freezer thermometer in the appliance? Life's too short......
Question Author
I just never bothered with a thermometer. I suppose it s a good idea though! Turns out it had gone. Lovely thawed food this morning.
diddly: since the whole point of these appliances is to keep food at, or below, a specific temperature - it's rather foolish NOT to have a check on the temperature.
"life's too short"? Could be a whole lot shorter...
