With a child, you should receive preferential treatment though and allowed to go to the plane before the rest of the riff raff!
One thing I would be aware of though is where you are flying to. Ryanair have lots of cheap flights to small airports that are miles out of the city you want to go to. Search the airport on google to find how far it is from the city and how easy it is to travel there. (e.g. the onein Oslo is a 2 hour coach ride from Oslo city centre)
I returned from Granada (Spain) on a Ryan Air flight yesterday. They always allow people with children to board the flight first, even if they are not among the first to check in. Just make sure you are at the Boarding Gate at the correct time. You will then be able to choose where to sit in the plane (although children can't sit by the emergency exists which have more leg room nor can anyone usually sit in the first two rows, unless the flight is full). The food on board is expensive and of poor quality. The best thing to do is to take some for you and your child. A cup of tea is 1.85!!!
