quite seriously, it would be an appalling idea to ever, ever recast The Magnificent Seven, especially to replace them with women. Some great songs should just never be covered and some great films should never be remade.

But kick, the Magnificent Seven is itself a remake of Surokawa's, The Seven Samurai, so it's not an original piece. I just wondered who would be used if they made a re-make in 2006. I thought I'd give a feminist perspective as I expected others to mention modern male actors. I never expected a war on this one, honest! :-)

Oh I know it's a remake, but the point is that The Magnificent Seven is one of my all time favourite films, which I've watched countless times, whereas the Seven Samurai isn't. So for me personally, it just can't be recast - that's unthinkable!! It's like your favourite Doctor Who (Tom Baker), which cast set you remember best from Grange Hill (Tucker, Trisha et al), your favourite childhood sweetie (texans and mint puff candy). These things are entrenched in your past and cannot be bettered by modern equivalents.

Don't get me wrong, your choice of 7 female leads were good. I particularly liked Sigourney Weaver as Bronsons character but Renee Zellwegger for Steve McQueen??...oh please no, he's my favourite character. I'd have Samantha Morton playing him!!
