My dentist wants my NHS number, but I don't have it anywhere.

I have an EHIC card with a big long number on it.

Is my NHS number included in this number?

Try asking your doctors surgery. They should have it recorded on your medical notes.
I have a paper medical card that I've had for about 20 years with my surgery details on plus my NHS number. I'm not sure if they are still used. Your doctor's surgery may know it.
Your GP surgery will have it, it should be on your medical card - if you ask, the surgery will tell you.

Yes, I suppose I'll have to.

You know what it's like though, the receptionists were trained in East Germany.

If they give you a hard time, remind them about the Patient Satisfaction Survey....
