In their defence, the attackers probably didn't know they were charity workers, over there to support the islands infrastructure. The fact they were Western is probably reason enough.

I read this wasnt the first time these 2 girls had been victims of an attack out there.
"How many times do we hear of such cases were voluntary workers are either killed or maimed in these African countries"

Very rarely.
Not always Africa. Sometimes it happens in Asia too.
please note it's not just in Africa, but the Middle East and anywhere that the perception is we are interfering.
From my link:

//One friend suggested they might have been singled out because they are Jewish, and local police said they wanted to speak a radical Islamic preacher who they believe may have inspired the attack. //
how would anyone know they were Jewish?
// charity workers have long been targeted, it's seen as interference by the west, strange eh? //

It undermines the oppressive, tribal, misogynst, ignorant, religion based status quo of these places. The people at the top of that structure don't want any change to it, so they attack anything that they preceive as a threat to it.
Please note there are some graphic images - but it does give an update

Don't know em. It's probably not that. Just that they're from the west and working there.
they are western women, seen perhaps as easy targets.
