does anyone know of a digital voice recorder that is mac compatible?

You could try Maplin Electronics, they do a USB one, although I'm not sure whether the software is Mac, but it is USB connection

Some USB voice recorders are available in the market for reasonable price. You can give it a try. Some of them also comes with voice activation system.
