Shooting Stars

Forgot to look last night, will we be able to see them tonight again? Any particular time ? And where do I look in sky ?

The Radio 4 weather forecaster said (at just before 6pm this evening) that the peak of the meteor shower was last night but that people living in the eastern half of the country should have a good chance of seeing some tonight at around 10pm to 11pm.

There was a guy on earlier saying the best time was after 01.00 and not to look in one particular place but to lay back in a deck chair and just watch the sky in general.He also advised getting wrapped up as it gets a bit nippy.

Although the times above seem to differ, I suspect that it's because Paddywak was listening to an astronomer (who concentrated upon when there will be the greatest number of shooting stars) while I listened to a weather forecaster (who was more concerned with the cloud cover). The forecast is for increasing cloud cover so it might be wisest not to leave it too late.

I went out last night just after midnight and saw two. I was a wee bit disappointed if I'm honest, I expected a "shower". But there you go. Midnight to 4 am is meant to be best as its darkest and watch up toward the east slightly if possible. Watch for at least 15 minutes to glimpse one shooter.

Been watching it myself for a few years now and the double fly byes when the shuttles used to go up. I post every night after 6 on here when it is over the uk . Lots of people never knew they could see it . Good luck for tonight.

You're right Chris the guy was an astronomer, who did say that that was the darkest time. Trish and I sat out till about 01.00 last night and never saw a single shooting star so I think we'll give it a miss tonight.

I saw some fantastic ones last night between midnight and 1am. They were heading SSW. It`s clear again tonight so might have another look.

We counted about 15 last night, between about 10pm and 11:30. Will stay out a while and have a look tonight.

I popped out for a bit last night and immediately saw one flash by, then nothing, no more. was in bed within minutes, haha.

Been out for 15 mins fantastic view of station but no shooting stars yet.

Saw lots last night around 11.50, north kent. So unexpected really as it was all 'just there' in the north east. Nothing so far tonight.

I've been watching for the past 3 nights but no luck. Plenty stars but none of them "shooting". All a bit of a dissy really. I'll try again tonight, which I understand will be probably the last chance for this year's events.

We saw the space station and lots of shooting stars on Tuesday early hrs about 1am, but only a few shooters about 11pm as it got cloudier here later. Looked to the north and east. Not much light pollution as its out to sea
