Why are so many of people's goals focussed on what they can buy - expensive cars, big houses, massive TVs. Is it just me that sees somebody in a Ferrari and thinks they've spent a lot of cash to sit in the same crappy traffic as I am, and people who have a 70inch telly are watching the same rubbish as me. Why do people get comfort in all this 'stuff'. So much of the 'celebrity' news is based around how much somebody has spent on a handbag, is this any sign of success?

If you are earning good money and can afford a few luxuries then why not? life is for living, Im pretty certain these people dont buy things specifically to make everyone jealous, why are people so judgemental about everything these days?

Im guessing ck1 (irony in that designer perfume brand name) you own a black and white portable tv?

I don't think a lot of people realise that material stuff is not that important. We have (myself and himself) become far less materialistic with every knock that we have received. It sometimes takes quite a major event to make you evaluate your priorities.

What should be a sign of success ? Oh sure, achieving a goal I guess but how much easier it is to want to be able to own something and strive towards it. For sure changing the world for the better is a better aim, but how many will or can do that ? Those with the drive are probably just wanting to change it as they want it. So for a small minority an influence goal might work. But for most, no. Ultimately everything turns to dust anyway. Nothing really matters, nothing really matters to me........ fade out

Octavius, I wasn't saying that everyone who has a sports model Ferrari is a show off. What I say is that those who are show offs pick that style. A very modest friend has a Lamborghini. I asked him once how it was going and he said "It's in dock. I'm using the Ferrari today" That is the kind of person some of us would like to be; likes cars, is completely ordinary in his manner, and is comfortable with money, so much so that he doesn't see having two or three favourite cars as exceptional. His favourite cars are just more expensive than most. He never gives it a thought. He certainly wouldn't want to advertise the fact .

Mine got them for Christmas, Tambo. £50 each.
People are quite strange about money, i think. I've heard the phrase "what someone's worth" meaning how much money they have. Also, describing someone as "successful" meaning "rich." Bizarre.

Oh dear, standard personalty trait, you don't have it so you disdain those that do. I used to know a guy years ago that always used to deride flash cars rolexs etc but guess what he did when he had the dosh!Well Rolexes are free so it's bad example but you get the picture!

Meh.... if you can afford to indulge yourself in something you like then fine, crack on. I've no interest in big tellys, fancy technology stuff etc... But I don't like fake or costume jewelery rings so all the rings I own have a precious stone; I just don't have very many! I don't have any preference for designer shoes but I do like unusual shoes (hate black shoes), so I have a few pairs of those too. To me these things are no measure of how successful I am, I just consider myself lucky that occasionally I can indulge in these little whims I have. :c)

I'm not massively interested in 'celebrity' news so I tend not to notice what's on trend anyway... probably why I'm always several seasons behind when it comes to the 'in' colour!
