It may be of benfit if you are selling something sensitive and people don't want to be seen with their name against it.

Other than that, I avoid them because the cynic in me suspects that the seller is getting their mates to shill bid.

I avoid buying anything that has a private listing and I will not sell to someone who wants to keep their id private.
