I have a jewelery design that is completely unique and has never been done before. Its not just the design its the concept. Its a concept of keeping part off someone with you at all times. The design I have a rough idea about. Can I protect my idea at all before I start discussing it with anyone?

>>>completely unique

It is either unique or it isn't. Unique is unique.

It can be "completely unique"

Erm thanks for that correction lol
IANAL, but unless you have the money to hire a bunch of Apple-quality lawyers (as you're asking here for advice, I'd guess not) surely there is plenty of "prior art" for this concept? http://eternalkeepsakes.co.uk/cremation-jewellery and http://www.picturesongold.com/shop/cremation-hair-lockets.html

Hi my idea is far different compared to these eternal keepsakes. All the do is retain a worthless mass of material that was associated with the person mine is far better :)
Apple lawyers may be a tricky one
you can have your deceased loved one made into a diamond (carbon) ring can't you?
If its encapsulating someone's ashes, it's been done. Yes you can copyright an idea.

I hadn't seen chris's post and he's quite correct of course. Copyright only applies when there is a physical 'product'.
