Does anyone have any ideas as to how I get my washing out of my washing machine?

What are the usual causes for the door failing to open?

Machine probably thinks it's still washing, check 'knob' has returned to off position.

it probably has just been making pretend washing noises since you turned it on and the brushes have gone so it's just been emptying and filling

Mine has a special release tab that I have to pull. It's hidden behind a panel near the bottom of the front of the machine. If you have your manual there may be some guidance on this

Have you accidentally switched it off at the plug? I'm not insulting your intelligence, I've done that. :o/

It is nothing obvious - will look for the manual and see what can be done.

have you tried "open sesame"?

Open sesame didn't work and it is always switched on at the plug.

It is a Hotpoint WF541 and when I googled the problem it says that my door lock is busted.

There is a fiddly solution but as my brain and hands are not communicating today I will see if I can get somebody out to sort it.

Now I have to find out what has been taking chunks out of the side of my little set of rattan drawers. I have a suspect in mind.

Yes ~ that would be the name of the animal involved. He is lying on the living-room floor snoozing and hugging his scratch pole. Not sure where Princess Slasher is though.

Try unplugging it, and then opening the door.

Thanks to Marijn nice and un-technical answer I have now got the door open. I will try and find me a 'man' to fix the lock for me.

Still ~ the good news is that the cat wasn't in the machine. Maybe she is off to see her cousin Princess Murphy.
