Why when the accurate time can so easily be obtained by the click of a mouse button, does the cash strapped MOD need to spend this amount of money dialling up the talking clock?

Orderlinit,

I can appreciate there are times when the police need accurate time for calibration purposes. But I do not believe the instance you highlight accounts for the 115,000 instances that the Met Police phoned the time.

Many phones automatically sync time with a time server. Then there are apps, many of which are free, that deliver accurate time. This means the police can instantly make a screen capture which is recorded proof of the time, rather than Rely on hearing a remembering. As long as the police phone has a data plan, all instances of accessing the time are 'free'.

/// LOL, I just saw the heading, I thought you meant the Mods on here. ///

/// As a complete bit of side trivia the Ministry of Defence has deemed that the correct way to abbreviate is MOD not MoD. ///

Nice once again to see that there are some amongst us who scan my Headlines and other contents for mistakes, but I am afraid I am not guilty in this instance, please allow me to explain:

One has no control over how AB configures capital letters in the headline area.
AOG,

No one was getting at you, looking for errors or jumping on a mistake.

We all know how ABs capitalisation is crap. People were commenting at how it came out, not blaming you.
"And again, should so I am clear I understand - the detectives investigating the time stamp information for some downloaded footage would be able to apply a correcting factor based around the time the CCTV is currently reporting, and the actual time derived from the speaking clock?"

@lazygun, yes, and everybody else will be using the same one accurate, reliable and trusted source as the correcting factor. This has always been procedure as its widely accepted as 'evidentially sound', by police, CPS (including Defence), the courts and so on.

Gromit, I do agree the figures seem excessive but am mindful of how much cctv there is and seized in this country.
