I don't watch New Tricks but have struggled to accept Nicholas Lyndhurst as anyone but Rodney, strange really as I'll happily watch David Jason in anything.
Ive not seen New Tricks.

I agree. There are some actors that you can only see in one role. John Wayne in anything other than a horse opera never seemed right.
I haven't seen New Tricks so I can't comment on his performance in that. For me, he will always be Rodney. Shame really. I saw him a couple of times on stage at the Theatre Royal Brighton and he was excellent but, bottom line, he will always be the very lovable Rodney. Butterflies was recently repeated on TV and it's amazing just HOW dated it all is. The clothes, hair, humour etc. With Only F & H, I could watch over and over and still enjoy it.
What's an apotheosis?
What was the other programme? Goodnight Sweetheart??
Does anyone actually watch New Tricks then?
Oh yes, uummm, I forgot about Goodnight Sweetheart. I loved that, although not so much when the original two women were replaced by a.n.others. Didn't care so much for the newcomers. Nicholas Lyndhurst was really good in that.
I really enjoy New Tricks - it will be interesting to see how it develops.

I would love to see Lyndhurst play a real baddie but I don't suppose it will ever happen.
I read an article once where "Rodney" said he had never let his son watch F &H in case he called his dad a plonker. He was in the Punch & Judy pub in Covent Garden when my late hubby was having his stag do and came and joined them they commented what a nice down to earth guy he was.
he'll always be rodney to me ... or dave
I love Nicholas Lyndhurst and think he's a fine actor. He was fantastic as Rodney and I never watch New Tricks, but am watching (or recording) it now just because he's in it. Looks just the same, only greyer !
Bit difficult watching him in this new role. He's always Rodney, looks the same sounds the same, stands around the same.
