I was recently given the latest (12th Edition) Chambers as a present - there were some rumours last year (year before?) that this would be the last edition they're printing. I wouldn't be without it & it's available at a reasonable price on Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chambers-Dictionary-12th-ed/dp/055010237X (Ginnel is in there...)
It depends what you want to use it for. If it's daily crossword solving you can't go far wrong with the Oxford Dictionary in any of its forms. In fact that applies to general use. Collins is good for place names
