Am a little annoyed with the tune in this advert, as I tend to associate it with Christmas music. Although the Co-op are showing families having a picnic, I feel that the retailers are targeting the consumers early this year (they usually wait until September!)

It's a deliberate 'pattern interrupt' You'll find numerous christmas references in there the salad being used as mistletoe the stockings being laid out in the flowerbeds the cooked bird being brought to the table the old man with the white beard etc etc

They do stress it's the summer season?
My husband agrees with you, he gets really annoyed every time the blasted advert comes on!

They do, ferlew, but it's like playing Jingle Bells in the background. That music is usually played in adverts around Christmas

Ahh, it's not just me then, Pooka !
It's a clever ad if it catches our attention
Too clever by half if it irritates some viewers?
I read a few weeks ago that they were getting complaints. Who wants to be reminded of C.......s in July? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2358928/Co-op-advert-No-festive-cheer-employees-customers-complain-Christmas-song-summer.html
A while back Staples used the tune on their back to school advert, I thought that was quite funny.
It's a deliberate 'pattern interrupt'

You'll find numerous christmas references in there

the salad being used as mistletoe
the stockings being laid out in the flowerbeds
the cooked bird being brought to the table
the old man with the white beard

etc etc
Ya know Zeuhl, until you pointed those out, I hadn't noticed those, and now I realise how clever the advert really is!

Notice the "snow" cherry blossoms and the girl making a sand (snow) angel too?
Thought it was a very clever twist on the usual preconception of the music..

while i agree that it was written as a christmas song, the main theme is of families being together during a holiday season....and in this case, the holiday season is the summer holidays
that is the emphasis the co-open is focusing on
Yes

a neat little conceit aided by the song following the american custom of referring to Christmas time as (faith neutral) 'the holidays'
'Tis true, it's very irritating...but it's also very clever...after all, it's got all of us talking, so it can't be doing that bad, can it??
It caught my attention - it is "a wonderful time of the year", we're just used to it being at Christmas!
Haven't seen it. Just lucky I guess.
