Wisdom Tooth Extraction Question??

My partner had her wisdom tooth taken out at 11am this morning and was given a couple of "bitepads" to stem any residual bleeding. She has used both pads now and there still a fair amount of blood that no amount of swilling with water is solving. How long can she expect bleeding, it isnt exactly pouring but she is spitting blood every 4-5 mins and getting a bit anxious (she HATES the sight of blood it is almost a phobia).

Rinsing is not recommended for the first 24 hours, make up a clean pad and some more biting down for now.

Yes dentist said a warm saltwater rinse AFTER 24 hours. I will fashion an alternative bite pad for her now, we have a first aid box.....somewhere!

When I had a tooth extracted, I was told not to rinse or spit as both things draw blood from the gum. It's hard not to but as Mamyalynne says, biting down is the very best thing to do and should stem the flow.

Advice given by our dentist to OH recently after an op. Bite on a wodge of cotton wool for an hour to stem the bleeding. It worked. If she keeps rinsing it won't start to clot and heal over.

Thanks, this is good advice as she has rinsed with water and spat during the last hour but we shall put a stop to that!
