Kobo Or Kindle ?

Dont no which one to get? I would use it for downloading books , using wifi (would this be free if you connect to someones wireless ?) . Thanks for any advice.

Kindle is particularly good if you've already got an Amazon account - but if you've not got one yet it's probably worth exploring both.

Using someone's Wifi would make downloading free - although the 3G version is also free (and you could download while out and about).

Well I have just bought a Kobo and I love it. I normally download my books onto my lappy and then sync the Kobo with the lappy before I go anywhere so I wont need to download anymore. I connect to my wireless but have connected to hotel's wireless (which was free).

And Mr BM loves it too because instead of me packing about 9 paperback books when we go away, I have them all on my little thing in my handbag. And they are generally cheaper to buy.

Do you want an ereader or a colour HD tablet with full wifi access? The Kobo arc comes in 16 and 32gb and is an ereader too, but you can pretty much use it as you would your laptop except for word processing.
There is also the Kobo glo ereader, also full wifi access to either home or open zone , it has built in games, soduko, chess and also a notepad. It has up to 1 month battery life for reading ,access to 3million plus titles including 1million free titles, it auto upgrades and so no need to buy a new device, a built in glo light that glows up the screen and does not spot like some other ereaders, you can buy books using your debit card but also purchase gift cards in store which means you don't need a debit card.
If you want a tablet the Arc is fab, I use it alot, it is very fast and has a great HD screen, twin front speakers, front camera, microphone. Really good for accessing the internet when you are out and about and can pick up free spots, but good at home when you don't want to have the laptop on. it's a great ereader too. wifi connection is free as long as you have someones password, it connects and then remembers the code and so will automatically connect nxt time you turn it on at that location. I have synced mine with my laptop and it has all my forefox bookmarks already in there now. it used android latest version, jelly bean 4 i think, and i have all sorts of apps on it, i watched big bang theory last night in bed on TVcatchup.

I have a Kobo Glo ereader,well pleased with it.The reason I bought this make in lieu of Kindle is I believe can only buy ebooks from Amazon...whether this is strictly truw,I am not sure.

it's true. unless you are into dodgy dealings of course. with the glo you have an open platform and can shop around for book deals, you can also share you downloaded titles on up to 5 other devices, and so you can read your book on the glo, your laptop, smart phone, i pad or whatever.

You can do similar with Kindle as well.

There's little difference between the two brands - it all depends on your use-case.

You can load compatible file types onto the kindle as you would to a Kobo - but yes, you can only "buy" from the kindle store.

I have a Kobo it is fab, free books from the library and a bit which i love is that you can start as many books as you like and it will remember the exact place you stopped next time.

I use the wifi at home and like BM i download books onto the laptop first so you can get them from anywhere, then sync the kobo - job done.

wrong, kobo has way more setting options than the kindle across all devices. kobo is also an open platform and gives you choices on where you buy your books, and you can download from your lending library.

I can download library books straight onto my Kobo, don't have to go via the laptop.

Not that I use these things, nor wish to, but don't tablets and the like cover all these "book" needs by now ?

I just got a kindle PaperWhite yesterday. It was up and running about 3 minutes out of the box....may be a bit longer if you need to open an Amazon account. Very easy to get the hang of,and all the books I had in my kindle app on my tablet were installed instantly. Highly recommended. ;-))
