I suspect that someone might be using my WiFi connection as my ISP has told me that 62% of our monthly download limit has been used in the last few days.
Every one in the house assures me they have not been downloading huge things, so I want to password-enable the connection so outsiders cannot nick my download limit. I know I have been lax, and should have done this before. Please can someone tell me how to do this.
I have a 3 Com router, a few years old, attached to a downstairs PC. There is a wifi range extender so we can use laptops and iPads upstairs.
I can log in as an administrator and change settings using the browser, but can't see a way to set up a password.
Thank you.
You're probably looking for a reference to 'password' when you should be looking for 'PSK' (= Pre-Shared Key), which is what your router calls a password. See if this helps:
I had this problem with my next door neighbour, I had to ring my internet provider (was the best option) and I changed the name of my wifi/broadband and changed password with their help, it had something to do with WEP. If i were you I'd ring IP
There should be a wireless settings menu option. Do the menus look like the ones in this link? If so, you can use the instructions there - pre-shared key is the wifi password.
I thought all routers came with a wifi key that was printed on a sticker underneath the router, and this was enabled by default. Is this not the same as a password and how would you connect without it?

Thank you, everyone, especially Buenchico and Aquariel.
For anyone with a similar problem who stumbles across this thread, to get my iPad to connect I had to reset its factory default network settings.
Thanks again!
