Levy has been very canny. He knew Real were always going to stump up the big bucks for Bale, making them wait until the last minute before allowing the transfer to be completed while in the meantime using the Bale money to purchase several quality players.
If Levy had allowed the transfer to happen weeks ago then selling clubs would have held Spurs to ransom over the transfer fees of the new players we've bought because they would have known Levy had £86million burning a big hole in his back pocket.
Levy knew there was no way he could keep Bale once the players head was turned, he wouldn't have been the same player if he'd been forced to stay and play for Spurs and there would have been disruption to the team as it was years ago when Dimitar Berbatw@t sulked to get his big move to ManU (oh how we laughed at all those splinters DB used to get from sitting on the United bench!). Basically it was 'Real Madrid can have Bale but it will be on Tottenham's terms and he'll sign when we're good and ready - and that will be at the last possible moment so that it disrupts Real's start to the new season'
Moral of the story = never buy anything second hand Mr Levy has for sale
