Good Book Suggestions

I've just started book 5 of the Mortal Instruments (whatever a "trilogy" is when there are 5, to be 6 of them!) books and really enjoying them.

I'm after ideas for easy reads which I can engross myself in. Have done all the Harry Potter, Twilight, 50 Shades, Beautiful Creatures etc... books.

I do read other stuff and tend to have a mooch in Oxfam quite often and pick random books which look good or by authors I like, Marian Keyes, Cecelia Ahern etc... Have got into a bit of a habit of reading books before going to see films, most recently The Help, The Host, Beautiful Creatures and the first of the Mortal Instruments books.

Not looking for anything too highbrow, just something to relax and unwind with.

If anyone is looking for any recommendations, I can highly recommend The Help and The Age of Miracles.

I think Gone Girl may be next on my list - I need a bigger bookshelf!

light reading then, you're mainly reading teen fiction or young adult and so try the Hunger Games trilogy

Yes, very light, my unwinding time :) I don't care if they are aimed at young people, I enjoy them.

Sorry, forgot about them! Already read all the Hunger Games books and awaiting the second film to come out. I really enjoyed them, if enjoyed is the right word.

I don't read a lot of fiction, especially these days, but your bloated trilogy reminded me, some years ago I enjoyed the Dune trilogy. You might give them a try.

Cheers bednobs, I think the Golden Compass film put me off reading the books a bit though it's been a good few years since I saw it so will give them a go.

Ah good :) I went to see it as a friend wanted to, it was very pretty but I wasn't gripped. They are on the list then.

I have one of what I think is a trilogy called Gone but not started that yet. Too busy burying myself in fantasy land :)

It's become my little retreat, curl up with a good book, something lovely which doesn't involve moving.

You'll like Gone Girl....it takes a while to get into it,but is compelling. I'm currently reading her first book-Sharp Objects. It may be even better.

I was on a Dorothy Koomson thing a while back, read a load of her books and really enjoyed them. I started with The Woman He Loved Before which I found quite addictive. The Ice Cream Girls was very well done, although not easy reading at points. I only watched the first part of the TV adaptation of it and didn't bother with the rest. The book was far better.

If you like fantasy in the form of elves, ogres, and the like (I see you have tried Harry Potter) then Terry Pratchett's Discworld series is fun, especially the early stuff. As usual with the series type stuff, probably best read in the order written.

I'm on book 4 of Mortal Instruments and I love it. Went to see the film last week and loved that too! I couldn't get into The Hunger Games - I gave up after reading about a third of it as I found it very depressing. Loved the Twilights and the films also The Host and that film too.

Rob Grant 'Fat' a genuine LOL book. he side stepped from Red Dwarf (which are also recommended, not heavy) Infinity welcomes careful drivers, better than life... and 'Backwards'
