inactive SIM

i recently registered my SIM card with my Sony Ericson K800i. Orange told me to wait 24hrs for a text message, read and delete it, swith off my phone, wait 10secs, switch it back on and it is ready to use. however, the text didn't come within the specified 24hrs and the network provider was shown on the screen as "inactive SIM". Whats the matter with it?? Ihave tried other Orange SIM cards and the same thing has happened. Thanks in advance.
