My husband and I are going to Paris by Eurostar for 5 days, we are usually covered by an annual insurance which has now run out. Would we need to take out insurance for this time, or would we be entitled to treatment should it be needed, seeing as how it is in the Eurozone and we have the European insurance card (E111)

i think you'll have to decide what risks you want to take. EHIC does not cover things such as lost/stolen bags/money/passport or medical repatriation. I have a feeling that the french have to pay towards healthcare, and the EHIC means you'll be treated as a citizen of that country woul

The friend we are staying with is a doctor so treatment would be given. We will have bags with us on the train.

what if you needed hospital treatment (say you were run down by one of their looney drivers) or you needed repatriating

I had a bag nicked on Eurostar, but I claimed on my household insurance. All the same, I'd be taking out insurance for the same reason as bednobs suggests.

J....it's a bit risky to go without insurance...just to scare you....
A couple I know went abroad without proper insurance. He died unexpectedly and the cost of bringing him home was horrendous...I like to know I am covered for any eventuality.

When I booked the Eurostar I took their insurance and it was not very expensive. Cannot remember the amount but it was under a tenner and included all the normal risks.

anniebird - just checked Eurostar insurance and the price was over £77 for 2 people, 5 days ! wow

Some short trip insurance is really cheap so it might be worth it.

Try Post Office insurance.
It is relatively cheap for the piece of mind it gives you.

You might find that you have insurance without realising it. My bank has just informed me that I shall soon stop being covered for holidays. I had no idea that my bank had ever given me free holiday insurance - as part of some forgotten deal.

We have been quoted just over £22. for 5 days for 2 of us from AA so that is very reasonable. As you say, peace of mind!
