Preserving Eating Apples

My apples are falling to the ground so have decided to pick the remainder to morrow. Other years I wrapped them in newspaper and stored in the garage, but they always shrivel like prunes. Any advice?

Don't try to preserve any that are bruised as this will rot the others. Keep checking them over and remove any that have started to go bad.

In a previous house, I used to wrap them individually in newspaper and keep them in an old chest of drawers in a shed. Seemed to keep them quite well that way.

When I was a child we had a large orchard and sold fruit. The very best apples, carefully hand picked and not windfalls or damaged, were wrapped individually in paper and stored on slatted shelves in a shed.
If you have any less than perfect I would imagine the only thing to do would be to stew them and freeze them, though someone may have a better idea.
I peel and slice the apples, and then freeze them as they are. Perfect for pies, crumbles etc . Others which have marks, and blemishes will be made into chutney etc. either by themselves, or with other fruit and veg. Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall has a lovely recipe called Glutney, which is a mixture of various fruits and veg.
After wrapping some of them in newspaper, try putting them each in a sealed plastic bag to see if that stops the moisture from evaporating.
That method used to keep my tomatoes OK.
You could freeze them in a sugar syrup, I used to do that with plums, peel them first and cover with the sugar syrup. Then you can use them in crumbles and pies.
Not sure if this would be much help, but, I had apples for a year in the refrigerator and they were still good and edible after a whole year. Unbelievable!
somewhere cool/dry,not touching other apples.
