There's always an argument for immigrants / visitors etc to the UK to adapt to our culture, but with such diversity do we even have a defined way of doing things that should be adhered to? How many of us Brits abide completely to a traditional British way of living and are in a position to argue against different cultures' dress, language and faith?

they don't need to as there are people who work at the dwp and any government office who will know the language, and indeed may well be dressed the same.
same for doctors surgeries, hospitals, citizens advice.
That rather misses the point, Em.
I didn't ask do they have to, I asked should they have to.
I believe we have ABers who work for the DWP? I'd be genuinley interested to know the answer.
well if you want to claim benefits shouldn't you have worked at some point to be able to claim off the state... that of course doesn't always seem to be the case. If so if you are living in that country, wouldn't you need the language of that country, to some extent, unless you are working, living entirely within a community of all Asian, say Pakistani? and don't come into contact with English speakers. I do think you should be able to converse in the language of the host country, no matter who you are, or where you are.
if you go to a job centre here, you will see people from all backgrounds, religions, working and visiting to claim benefits.
