Hopefully this is absolute nonsense but I'm sure I heard somewhere years ago that if you drink a cup of tea after eating a piece of fruit, it cancels out any nutritional value the fruit may have had. It sounds ridiculous but is there any truth in it?
Yes, let's all listen to Diddyoo! This from the NHS "A note about tea! Tea may reduce the absorption of iron from foods. Avoid drinking tea directly before, after or with meals and only drink tea in between meals." The website http://www.wwl.nhs.uk/Library/All_New_PI_Docs/Non_Audio/blood_transfusion/Iron_in_your_diet.pdf

I thought it had the effect that rocky has mentioned. Clearly the tea advisory panel has a vested interest so I think I prefer the NHS version, but thinking on these things does move on and maybe the NHS site hasn't caught up.
