It's almost my husband's 50th and I'd like to buy him a decent bottle of whiskey/whisky - well, about £60 or so. I know there are different types, so if I say that his favourites are Dalwhinnie and Singletons, can anybody recommend one he'll like? I don't know whether those two favourites means he likes "peaty" ones or that he doesn't!

;-)...Dalwhinnie is sweet, so i suggest that "peaty whiskies" are not his scene.

I think a bottle of Dalwhinnie would be a good choice.

Thanks Sqad - they're about £34 at the minute and I usually buy him a bottle for Christmas. I fancied paying a bit more for a really special one that he wouldn't get again until his hundredth birthday. Although I suppose I could buy him two bottles of Dalwhinnie!
Neither of those are peaty.

I would suggest a Benrinnes if you are wanting to get him something different.

If you are unsure where to source from give The Whisky Shop in Dufftown a call or Gordon & McPhail in Elgin, both are super helpful and will be able to suggest/supply something to your Husbands liking and suit your budget.

This is more expensive........but nice.

Eccles's post is also useful.
I was also going to suggest Teananich, but having had a little google availability within your budget seems to be limited.

Thank you both - I know know what to look for, and have ideas of where to look! X
How about an Oban or a Glenfarclas or a Cardhu?
Question Author
After looking on the sites, I was thinking about Oban. We went to the distillery a few years ago and he liked the freebie and bought a bottle. I might buy him a bottle of the older, posher stuff now. Thank you X
