Sound OK to me, Gout has little to do with alcohol in any form in my opinion.
lol BT best start drinking it then - it is the most lush drink
Makes one wonder what you have been doing with that finger.

Best not go into that OG!
I'm reminded of the illegal immigrant who asked the waiter to recommend a port. The waiter replied, "Dover, bugger off"
Blue, that is not good, gout is painful and I feel for you. Mind your salt intake, crisps especially ! x
Since being prescribed 'Allopurinol' some years ago, by gout has not returned.
...but do you eat a lot of spicy food?
(Another red herring).
The mere mention of port always reminds me of Regimental dinners and all the rigmarole surrounding the pouring of it, how the decanter wasn't allowed to touch the table, nor the ladies touch the decanter(even Servicewomen in uniform had it poured for them).
Oh the halcyon days!

Apologies for the digression.
Chilli...and the port was always passed to the left.........;-)
Indeed Sqad, that was the easiest bit! LOL
Gout is a metabolic disease, therefore even teetotallers can come down with it.

Likewise, there is no shortage of life-long drinkers who never get gout.

My dad was advised to make dietry changes and watch his alcohol intake and/or change his tipple to try and counter act the gout. His complaint has since gone away and he doesnt miss the food and drink he once consumed at all, and feels better for it.
diet which contains large amounts of red meat was also blamed for gout.

Thank you for all your comments, I appreciate them.

I have quite a healthy diet, drink moderately, don't overdo the salt and don't eat any spicy food.

The tablets the doctor gave me this morning have started to kick in, and the pain is nothing like as bad as it was.
good news, don't stop taking the tablets .
I've got gout in my thumb!
It might be worth clicking through the links ('Symptoms', 'Causes', etc) here:

But thank you, anyway, for reminding me that I've got a couple of bottles of very nice port that I bought for consumption last Christmas but never got around to opening. I'm sure that I'll be able to think of something to celebrate soon (even if it's only another non-birthday!)

;-)
NB. chris, open that port at your peril............you may get gout :(
