Ok guys, looking for some suggestions/assistance.
I've recently aquired a new laptop with Windows 7 (still getting used to it) and unfortunately my old screensaver won't work (the link is for the newer version):

As I am loathe to pay for a screensaver and feeling short on inspiration and ideas, has anyone got any favourites or recommendations they'd care to share?

Thanks in advance.

Most people I know have no screensaver at all.
I use a slide show of photographs I've got stored.
I just use one of these

they're more backgrounds rather than actual screensavers though.
Oops, just noticed my link is for W8, but the same sort of things are available for W7.
Just go into Google images and find something that appeals to you. I have this just now

I use the Windows one where you can put in your own text. It scrolls along something like:

"Got my motor running ... head out on the highway ... looking for adventure ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... and stalled at the lights!"
I used to love Johnny Castaway.........
All Windows have a number of Screensavers installed and you can download others from Internet sites. However, one needs to take care that the site is trustworthy if you wish to avoid the possibility of viruses coming along with the download. There was a time when it was necessary to use Screensavers to protect the Cathode Ray Tube Monitors from damage caused by lack of picture movement. However, this is no longer the case with flat screen monitors.

There is a reasonable amount of information on Screen savers if you click your Start button > Help and Support ... then type in the Search Box....Screen Saver.

As Alston indicates, screen savers no longer save screens. (i.e. they were only necessary when using CRT monitors). They may look pretty but you certainly don't need them.

If I was to install one, I'd probably follow Traci66's suggestion and use the option to display a slide show of my own photographs (or of pictures which I'd downloaded from the web).

You can get your computer to do something useful whilst idle. I've been helping listen for aliens for a while now but there are other projects that you can join in with.
