Alas I have never heard of a female mechanic apart from Angelina in Gone in 60 Seconds.
That is probably a good thing as the fairer sex does not have the basic understanding to use tools.
Don't get me wrong when it comes to cooking, ironing, child care and the odd token tag on at work do's and weddings, women have great purpose. But in a garage, it is fruitless.
Can you imagine their whingings at Pirelli Calenders or dirty tea mugs.? Christ.
I agree with Ward-Minter. Women do not have the intellectual capacity required for vehicle mechanics. Admittedly they are good at other things such as cooking, washing and cleaning but anything technical or complicated is a no no. However, if you are an attractive female, you will find most garages female friendly.
Glad to see that male chauvinism is still alive in UK judging by the 'male' answers on this post or maybe its cos they are scared that women would do them out of their jobs?????????? It would be nice to be treated as human beings when you go into a garage, especially when there are some women around who do know a thing or two about cars......yes my ex did have some use in his role as a mechanic anyhow ;-) I hate being looked upon as the little woman who doesnt know anything about cars except where to find the mirrors! Maybe its just UK that are antiquated in this way there are plenty of female mechanics on the continent but then again there are many in the British Army too!
first of all i think you are all narrow minded if you don't think a woman can do a "man's" job. I'm 21 and i'm a mechanic. I've worked in 2 different shops. A body shop and a GM dealership shop. I'm currently in school right now getting my AS degree for auto tech. I'm the only girl in my class and believe or not.. i'm in the top 5 of my class out of 30. I think thats pretty d*mn good. I love it when the guys come up to me..the only girl in the class.. and ask for help. It makes me feel great. I get so many looks, and get called bad names by a lot of people. but once they see what i can do they change their mind fast. I love a challenge. When someone says i cant' do it.... you better bet your a** i'm going to show them wrong. And i always do. Men just need to get use to it....women are going to be doing the same jobs as them. Hell there are thousands of men being nurses.... isn't that suppose to be a "woman's" job?? thought so! many men are staying home with the kids these days and fixing dinner, cleaning, and laundry.... didn't that used to be a "woman's" job too? yeah thought so!
