Finished this excellent puzzle but have a bit of a problem with 39 across, which seems to yield an 'e' that doesn't belong to the sequence of missing letters.
Any help please?

I'm nowhere near finished - but I have done 39 Across. I don't think there's an 'e' yielded - Bradfords gives ?? (the first and last letters of my solution) as a synonym for the fourth word in the clue.
Sorry if this is of no help, or if we're talking at cross-purposes!

First time I have tried this puzzle. My husband brought The independent back from train journey on Saturday. Have struggled with it all day (on and off).
What a relief to finish it! Lovely puzzle.
Never see it mentioned much on this forum. Do many people do it?

Some weeks there is a lot of activity, some weeks not.

It is a great puzzle indeed! Very much the newcomer on the block, but gaining popularity and rightly so!

I do the Mephisto and Azed every week (never won a prize!), so will try to do the Inquisitor more regularly now!

I hope you do crockshard! I've won both the AZED and Mephisto(twice) so keep at it, it can be done! Haven't won the Inquisitor yet, though!
