Street Lighting - Position of Lamp Posts

Does anyone know what rights home-owners have to get lamp-posts badly positioned and blocking a drive or pathway moved? Consultation took place but the attached plans showed an acceptable position which was not adhered to due to the discovery of underground services. No consultation took place on the revised position.

Bloody hell Tetjam, who said that that's what happened? You can infer from the question (references to consultation and attached plans) that these are new street lights that have been installed to replace the old ones. We agreed to the position shown on the plan they gave us, then we got home one night and found it had been placed next to the fromt gate. I plan to chop it down.

I am intersted in any replies you get to this as I have recently purchased a property which has a lamp post to the left as I come out of my driveway.
This causes a problem with turning in or out of the driveway and if i park inwards I cannot reverse out when a car parks opposite my drive on the other side of the road else I will actually hit the lamp post. This means I cannot use my vehicle as previously I could not locate the owner of the car that was parked opposite and I was stuck due to not being able to get the front end out past the pillars for the driveway gates.
It has been in that position since it was installed I presume and I am not sure whether the local authority would do anything about it.

Talk to Highways at your local council. Sounds like a mess-up all round. I suspect you will be able to get it repositioned - eventually.

Which is your local authority as someone may be able to find one online?

If it's obviously ridiculous what they've done you could see if the local papers are interested.

I believe the authority's engagement in consultation, about the lamp post's position, does imply their recognition of your rights, as an 'adjacent land users'.

I would suggest that your local Councillor should be able to help: by showing the appropriate people the sense of your argument.
Otherwise, you could expedite the re-siting of the lighting column to the agreed, or another suitable position, by refusing to pay your Council Tax until the matter is resolved. Start by putting such a threat in writing, copied to a local paper?
