It means "I know it's wrong but this is how it was printed" It's a Latin word meaning so or thus
sometimes described as 'said in context'

As Marjorie handed round the hors d'oeuvres tray, she invited everyone to help themselves to her nipples(sic).


(the correct word to use in this context would have been nibbles)

Might not have been nibbles ludwig, and wouldnt that have made for a much more interesting party!? ;-)
