I accepted a job six months ago but tthen later turned it down. I was very surprised to find i was paid by them at the end of what would have been my first month despite the fact I have never worked for them. I immediately rang their hr dept to inform thrm. And they said whoops, we'll contact you next week to arrange for you to pay is back. They never did. A month later I rang sgain and they daif we'll call back. They never did. I know I still owe them the money, but it would be more convenient to pay them bsck in instalments, although the money is sitting in mu offset mortgage account. Can I insist on this when they do get round to contacting me.Also how do I pay them and make sure they apply it to my debt?
When you say "Also how do I pay them and make sure they apply it to my debt?" do you mean how will you be sure your debt will be cleared from their records. As long as there's a record of what they ask for back, a record of your payment and you ask for a letter confirming receipt and paid in full, there should be no issues. I am sure nothing will ever go on your credit record
I wouldn't do anything until they ask you - if this was an NHS job, I know how complex some of the finance set-ups are. I can no longer accept cheque payments for anything, I bet it's the same where you are - everything has to be done on invoice to some remote finance function.
I think you have done all you are required and can wait and see.
I am not sure if you can say you wish to pay by installments as you know that it isnt yours.... so they can claim it back when and if....
but they cant charge interest without notice....
