I applied for a new job and got it. It has been a real hard decision for me to take the job as it would involve a considerable pay cut and the new employers were going to put me through a course for a further qualification where my pay would go up in less than a years time but it would still be slightly below what I earn now.
I would also be out of pocket as they don't have a works pension scheme which I do now. I've been longing for a change of job as I have been where i am for a lot of years now and there is a lot of history.
I've been doing a lot of number crunching and losing sleep over this the last few nights to decide if this is the right move and if I want to move enough to be financially worse off.
We have been ironing out what hours they would like me to do and I had mentioned not wanting to increase the amount of childcare I need.
They emailed me today and the hours they asking me today are totally not what I want. :O(
To think of the time I have spent thinking this over this week and lost sleep over it and it has all been a waste of time. Looks like I will be staying put for a bit longer.

Have you replied to them yet? It will depend how flexible they are and if they particularly need those hours. Maybe you could offer what you can do and see if there's any compromise. It sounds as though you will be losing out financially, so maybe you'd be better off waiting for a bit and looking for something else, anyway?
upset as you are, sometimes '' things happen for a reason''
considerable pay cut, no pension, unsuitable hours ... why are you disappointed?

Thanks Pixie and Anne. I haven't replied yet but they made a point of saying that the afternoon is their busiest time so would need me there til the end of their working day every day.
So I'm sure there is any point in 'bartering' with them . I don't think they will want me finishing my shift every day when their real work starts. :(
The positive side is on reflection I can see that I have quite a fair deal at the moment with pension and hours I work that it isn't such a bad thing to stay put for now.

It was quite exciting to be given the chance of a change and to do the extra qualification that I would like to do. ..but not so much to be that worse off.
Especially with these proposed hours . My schooltime childcare cost would double as well. :(
That's crap Jen but better to find out now that they'll bugger you about rather than a few weeks down the line.
.

Hmm turn it down and look for something else.

[The lack of a pension scheme is really bad news]
